is extended to May 15. That should keep youse guys happy. 3/14/02 Moogle1 - 2002 is here, and it's
time for the new OHRlympics. If you were here this time last year,
you'll probably remember most of this. You can submit your

Voting Specifics
Although games must be released by May 15, 2002, voting will
not begin immediately. A grace period of two weeks will be given
for voters to play the newly released games. Voting will then
take place from June 1 until July 1. Votes may not be placed
before that time.
Games that have not been released by May 15 are still eligible
for certain awards. For example, a game whose screenshots have
been publicly posted is eligible for Graphics awards, and the
MIDI file is sufficient to win a Music award; they need not be
released in the form of an RPG file.
Votes will be counted per author. For example, if Valkayree receives
a vote for Ends of the Earth from one voter,
then another voter votes for Ends of the Earth 2, Valkayree will
not have his vote split. In case Valkayree receives an award, the
game with the higher votes will be named the winner. To win two awards
in one event, an author may not combine votes from his games.
Voting Method
Voting will take place by e-mail. To prevent cheating, voters
must be registered on the Zantetsuken
Message Board with a distinct e-mail address. Double-voting will
not be tolerated and any attempts will result in cancellation of all
votes and public shaming. This is the only voting requirement; you
need not have released a game.
In each category, you may place up to three votes. No two of
these votes may be for the same author. Specify your choices for
first, second, and third place. First - 3 Points Second - 2 Points Third - 1 Point
If a voter votes for his own game in an event he must supply
at least two votes for that event.
Events
There are 36 events in the OHRlympics.
Plotscripting: HamsterSpeak is the official
plotscripting language of the OHRRPGCE.
Cutscenes: In-game movies that develop the plot.
Minigames: Games created entirely with plotscripting,
even those that aren't "mini."
Plot-developing: Integrating plot with plotscripting.
Overall: The sum effect of plotscripting in a game.
Graphics: - At its best, it's art.
Realistic: If it doesn't fall into the other two,
it goes here. (Evil Dead: Timeline)
Anime: Technically cartooned, but given a serious
style. Superdeformed = Anime. (Memoria)
Cartoon: The funny-looking folks in humorous
games. You know what they look like. (Wandering Hamster)
Music: Helps define the mood of a game.
Battle: The single best original battle theme.
Overworld: Best original world music.
Overall: Best soundtrack. Need not be 100% original,
but must not be 100% ripped either.
Originality: A breath of fresh air in today's world of
cliches.
Characters: Most original use or choice of characters.
Plot: Something that isn't "the young man and the princess
save the world."
Items: Most original use or choice of items.
Spells: Most original use or choice of spells.
Cliche: Seems like a contradiction... most original use of cliche.
Design: Good design makes a game fun and well-balanced.
Dungeons: A general term, this refers to map design.

2001 Questions
Q. Hey, what's the stance on bribes?
A. We shy away from them, and drugs as well. Remember, kids, ...uhh... something. (I'm not good at making up these moral messages.)
Q. Originality in a character would be a good category. Oh, and can committee member participate too?
A. Ah, excellent! Your event has been added. Oh, and you may indeed participate if you are on the committee.
Q. We should not do nominations (as the ones for the GHA were really crappy) but instead ask people to vote for three games in each category...so they cannot vote only for THEIR game...of course they could vote for three games they made, but oh well, this will be a minority...
A. Now that I think about it, you're right. I remember the noms for GHA... But instead of allowing 3 votes for one's own game, let's say that you can only have ONE of your three votes for a game you worked on.
Q. Good idea, I'll join the committee as soon as that email of mine works. Comment: points should be given to non-final-fantasy-clone-like games! As in originality regarding graphics and overalls.
Question: is there a prize besides popularity of games and honour? (prize as in... I dunno.. a kiss from SPAM =) or have a pic posted on OHR monthly)
A. 1) Good for you. 2) Originality - Overall and Originality - Graphics are new events now. ^_^ 3) Depends on Rinku. I already suggested it... sort of. In any case, I'll try to give a little extra on top of the recognition.
Q. Do we need to have an actual game or can we just write some cool plotscripting?
A. It has to be playable in the OHRRPGCE. In other words, don't send the HSS, send an RPG.
Q. Does the game submitted from the OHRlympics have to be new?
A. No. Even FUABMX is up for an award, though you have to be contact-able to receive a prize.
Q. What's the deadline? I think I'm gonna try to get Pray Chapter 1 in under it.
A. Either end of February or end of March. Please post on the Zant board concerning which you think it should be.
Q. Say you make music for someone else's game. Can you send in a MIDI file of it? Can you send in a single MIDI file with no game at all?
A. Yes, I will host MIDIs, but I would recommend that you try to get the game released as well. There are no nominations, so you could vote for Blockman as best soundtrack -- your job is to get people to listen to it.
Q. Can we vote for the same game three times in one category if it isn't our game?
A. No, your 1st, 2nd, and 3rd votes have to be different authors per category.
Q. What's to stop us from voting Penguin for most realistic graphics, etc.?
A. I'd think the fact that it won't win would be a bit of a deterrent. Don't you want your vote to count?
Q. Since it might be cool to see what kind of stuff others thought were good, would it be possible to list all the names of games and such that were voted in each category when the contest is over?
A. That sounds reasonable. I won't post the votes by voter, though, because that would be evil. Your privacy is protected at the OHRlympics (unless you have *cough* lots of money *cough*).
Q. Let's say I wanted to ask a question already in the Q&A, I mean it's not like you could do anything to me besides not post it right? Yeah, now who feels powerless?
A. I think you've got me on that one... oh, I could kick your game out of the runnings, too! 'Cause I'm evil like that.
