The picture you see above is a map of Greece near the time of the Wizards. While recorded history is not kind enough to bear record of the Wizards, it remains an unproven theory that they were centered in the city of Athens (highlighted on the map). The Wizards' membership peaked circa 500 BC, then they mysteriously disappeared, leaving only legends and myths.

Way of the Wizard takes place in the city of Ephesus (also highlighted), which is not too far from Athens by boat. While the Society of Wizards was very elitist, they did extend their membership as far east as Ephesus, if they deemed the candidate to be of sufficient talent and social standing. Their ranks never grew past Asia Minor, but the Wizards remained very influential.

Enter Daedalus, a young man who has spent his life training to become a Wizard. Under the training of Darius, he has been taught how to use magical Crests -- the Wizards' keystone of power. He is in his final days of training, and must soon begin his trial to determine whether he is worthy to enter the Society of Wizards. To do so, he must seek out the most powerful Crests from an ancient ruin, created millenia ago by the forgers of magic itself.

Each Crest has a special power that it gives to the bearer. From weapons of war to powerful healing to remarkable transformations, their powers will aid Daedalus on his way. However, he need not rely solely on his Crests. He can find scrolls that will teach him Spells that give him a minor boost when he needs it most. These Spells are supplemental to Daedalus, giving him the benifit of a meal or a short rest when he is in the field. They are not a suitable replacement. When Daedalus is in the fray of battle, he cannot neglect to bring food and take a rest, or he will slowly die of hunger and exhaustion. On the other hand, if he is kept in good health, his wounds will heal over time.

The story of Way of the Wizard is a blend of classical Greek legends, accepted historical facts, and the designers' invention. Though there is a limit to Daedalus's actions, the story branches out in many different directions. While Daedalus is trained in the use of Crests, it may be that he will reject the way of the Wizard. Perhaps he will become the head of the Council of Wizards. Daedalus can become many things, but it is your duty to see that Daedalus does not become a corpse.

It turns out that this is no easy task. Between him and the Crests lie enormous enemies, mindbending puzzles, and moral dilemmas that will decide between life and death. You will need your wits, your speed, and your patience to keep Daedalus on top...

However, just because you have survived does not mean you have truly won.
